Chef Lina and Mini Makeovers

2 Feb

Next Tuesday I’m venturing over to the east end for a much-needed pampering session. My dear friend Chef Lina will be collaborating with Avon and letting us lucky ladies sample her delectable home-baked valentines cookies which she’s just added to her menu; whilst we enjoy mini facials and makeovers from the ladies at Avon!

If you haven’t heard of Chef Lina then you are really missing out. She’s an East London-based mobile chef who makes food for every occasion from small gatherings to huge wedding or corporate parties; and if you’re friendly she’ll even bake you some bespoke cupcakes for your Friday night girls night in and throw in a *complimentary bottle of wine. Contact Chef Lina to view her limitless menu of Bakery, Patisserie and Savory delights; Macaroons to confit of duck…. It’s all lip smacking!

I can’t wait to get my hands on those cookies hehe!

My Hump, My Hump!

1 Feb

So today it’s Wednesday….Hump Day!!!

Here are 5 things to help you through the grimiest day of the week:

Treat yourself to a some Liz Earle products. I’m a recent Liz Earle recruit, after christmas taking its toll on my complexion I needed something to brighten it up. I visited Liz Earle in John Lewis at Westfield 2; had a mini facial (its free!!!) and my skin instantly brightened… I bought everything!  The Cleanse and Polish comes with x2 Muslin clothes which feel so comfy against the skin.

Grab a NARS Lip stick from Space NK. I can’t believe I haven’t told you this yet but… I’m addicted to this brands lippy. I love semi matte lipsticks, they really stand out on me; which is great for dull days. Funny Face is my favourite colour, it’s a plum/fuchsia and semi matte so it goes on evenly but doesn’t dry. Its stays on for absolutely ages. So you look gorgeous and freshly made up for hours.

Buy this, wear this, love this; Soliel tan de Chanel. It’s light cream gel bronzer which can be worn all over the face to give an instant tan, or used as a bronzer swept diagonally under the cheek bones and up towards the temples.

Order a Make Up Forever Compact shine on. Use colour 03 0r  colour 05 as a highlighter depending on your complexion. The other colours can be used as a blush. It adds an instant shimmer to your complexion, all ‘thanks to the light reflecting mother of pearl particles’ it contains. Take loads of pictures and see the magic in action.

Pop on some Shu Uemura falses. If you’re anything like me when you have  semi permanent eyelash extensions on you are constantly pulling and playing with them. If this is you then these Shu Uemura eyelashes are right up your street. They look so natural and have a nice gentle curve so fit every eye size and shape. You can get them in a natural volume which adds volume to your own lashes or for a more dramatic look bag the false lashes luxe.

Dannique Talks to Duke Dadzie

26 Jan

IN BED WITH A CELEB

Every fortnight we take a ride through the mind of a creative genius, I have either worked with or just really admire. Here they get to air everything from their opinions to their dirty laundry. This fortnight:

Dannique gets to talk to Duke Dadzie

Dukey! How’s you and your super sexy face getting on in the world of Modelhood?

Haha @Super sexy face…I’m flattered!!

Getting along pretty well thanks, its been a great year so far…just got back from Ireland last night in fact, was out there doing some Nike Ireland Tour, very tired but it was good easy-going  fun, they really know how to party up in Belfast by the way… just thought i’d give them a lil shout out.

Apart from having exceptionally stunning features what else encouraged you to enthrall yourself into the male modelling industry?

You know what, I wasn’t really interested in a modelling career when it first kicked off, I was just going with it because it was fun and I must admit, it is far from the average routine work life so I just went with the flow for the time being, its been going pretty well and im making the most of it whilst I can…taking it in my stride as they say!

How do you keep the phone ringing and the bookings rolling in?

Staying fit and healthy and keeping grounded I guess…there are lots of models around, lots of competition, all beautiful in their own ways, but it’s the personality that leaves the lasting impression on clients so being yourself could be the thing that gives you an edge over the others when it comes down to the selection process.

So, being a model means you often have to use make up or enhancement products to capture that image of perfection on camera. Has there ever been a product that a Make up Artist has applied to your face or skin and you’ve thought ‘i’mma get me some o dat!

Haha!! I think that would be a cause for worry if that thought ever crossed my mind after being made up…no I don’t recall thinking “ dang,I need to get me somma dat! “ before…or did I say that to you when we worked together ??? lol

Is the world of male modelling really how we saw it in Zoolander? Have you worked with any real life ‘Mugatu’s’; are there any Hansel/ Zoolander rivalries….Please tell us the Walk Off really happens?

Nope, I haven’t worked with any Mugatu’s, not that I can remember anyway!

The walk off happens at every fashion show casting, just not side by side…every model is judged by their walk, we don’t compete whilst on the runway…thought it would be quite hilarious if a real life walk off was incorporated into a fashion show lol

We want secrets Duke! Have you ever worked with someone who has had an over the top DIVA moment or has that DIVA ever been you?

Yes I have come across one or two DIVA’s during a shoot, it’s actually quite entertaining to sit and watch them have their moments, it’s either you just keep quite and listen to their rambles or you leave the room before they start screaming  for attention.

Ok, so what will you do when it gets a little too hard to keep up a perfect six-pack? Any plans for the future or are you just revelling in the here and now?

I am just taking it as it comes for now, however I do plan to work within the financial services industry at some point…who knows what might happen.

Tell me 2 things everyone should do before 11am?

Most importantly have a shower/bath, then eat some breakfast

What advice do you have for those burgeoning models out there?

Do as much research as possible before you jump into the deep end, people think they have to spend money on a portfolio and taking pictures before approaching an agency. No established agency would ask for money upfront so if an agency does they are probably not worth you’re time or you’re money; and are probably scams or fake agencies. So avoid these at all costs. All the modelling agencies that are worth joining in London are on this website link

Bridal and The Beast

23 Jan Hair and Make up by Dannique Simone

What a frigging crazy year!

My very non romantic long-term (10 years long) boyfriend took me too a pretty restaurant, let me finish an entire tarte ta-tin and then asked me to marry him in front of 30 or so onlookers… I said yes to stop the stares and wasn’t sure if the excitement bubbling inside me was because that restaurant makes a mean apple based dessert or because I now had an excuse to buy ridiculously expensive shoes.

I also completed my first year as a Franchise owner for Beauty Call.

Beauty Call is a team of dedicated Hair and Make up Artists, who basically spread their magic all across the UK.

I mainly focus on the Bridal side of things in South East of London and inner Kent; but we pretty much cover all bases on the Hair and Make up front.

My franchise area completed 89 wedding bookings in 2011, that’s 88 weddings, 88 Brides, 50 Mothers of the Bride, 120 bridesmaids, 12 Flower girls, 3 Grans and 1 groom (who shall remain nameless!) Oh and 1 bride -to -be who organised a 12 hour pre wedding photo shoot on Tower Bridge on the coldest day in October…. brrrrr

I’m looking forward to doubling my numbers in 2012! So here’s to a year of Insomnia, Bridezilla moments (from me no doubt) and meeting a whole bunch of new people!

This helps to keep your concealer and eyeshadow stay put. Used on your entire eyelid and  under the eye it will first give you eye a lovely primed, glowing look and then make your eyeshadow colour really stand out and stay put!

I can not mention this cream without using the words amazing and miracle. It can be used anywhere on the body that is suffering from dryness, sun burn or is just feeling a little unloved. Its effects are instant and will have you hooked from the moment of purchase.

This product does what it says on the box, it deeply nourishes and protects from the inside. Which results in beautiful skin, hair and nails.

And remember to drink water… 8 glasses a day to perfect and hydrated skin.

Pre-wedding Jitters

13 Mar

Tis the season to be running around like a headless chicken trying to finalise those all important wedding plans. This summer will see around 200,000 couples in the UK say ‘I Do’; with up to 50,000 brides wondering what to do about their Hair and Make up for that all important day.

So for you 50,000 curious brides to be I have put together a list to help you achieve Hair and Make up perfection on your big day.

  • Book a Hair and Make up trial 6 weeks before your wedding

Once you have found a Make up Artist that you like, book your trial ASAP. This will give you a chance to try a few styles out and allow enough time for you to change your mind or make any amendments.

  • Have your Tiara, Veil and Hair Accessories ready for your trial

Having your Hair pieces at your trial will give you a good idea of how you will look on your day and leave no room for surprises for either you or the artist.

  • Wear a plain white top at the trial

Wearing white at your trial will create the illusion of a bride. Wearing a baggy T-shirt with a slogan that reads ‘My mum went to Malta, and all I got was this T-shirt’, will not.

  • Have images ready

As soon as you book your trial have a few images of how you would like to look on your wedding day. This will give both you and the artist something to work with.

  • Drink water, lots of it

This will help improve the complexion and overall appearance of your skin. You’ll glow in your wedding photos.

  • Remember its a trial

At your trial you can ask as many questions as you like, no matter how silly you think they are.

And most importantly contact Composez Vous or Beauty Call if you want to look great.

I hope that helps.

Have an amazing wedding!

Blink and Go

9 Mar

Last week I go revolutionised, well my eyelashes did anyway.

I had a set of Blink and Go eyelash extensions added in just 20 minutes. This alternative to semi permanent eyelashes have been introduced by our friends at Nouveau Lashes.

No more hour and a half visits to the salon, having your eyelashes tugged and pulled.

These lashes are applied in just 20 minutes…lashes in a flash as they have been advertised.

They last upto 4 weeks (dependant how well you treat them).

And, I’ll let you into a little secret… All of last years Xfactor hopefuls were wearing them.

Check out our friends at Eyewish UK who everso kindly applied the sultry bad boys to my lashes.

Be warned, these are highly addictive…

A laid-back one -on-one with Simbad

21 Sep

IN BED WITH A CELEB

Every so often we take a ride through the mind of a creative genius, I have either worked with or just really admire. Here they get to air everything from their opinions to their dirty laundry. This fortnight I’m having:

A laid-back one -on-one with Simbad

1. Simbad, how are you? How is life sowing your DJ/Producing skills around the world?

Well you know how much of a blessing it is to do what you love everyday of your life, so I can’t complain really.

2. When I first met you, you had just unleashed ‘Soul Fever’ on to the unsuspecting House Music connoisseurs. What other gems can we expect from you in the coming months?

Waaaaaow so much stuff has happened since then lol! You can expect a new compilation I did with my friend Dj Lefto called ‘Worldwide Family Vol.1’ for Brownswood Rec. It’s due out on the 6th December 2010, on double cd with previously unreleased fresh up-tempo & down-tempo electronic music. There are loads of Simbad remixes for different artists hitting the streets on a regular basis (recently for Mc Ty, Agape, Erykah Badu, Zed Bias & Omar, RBA KPO , the list goes on…). The new Donn T album ‘Kaleidoscopic’ (she’s a singer from Philadelphia & the lil’ sister of Questlove from The Roots) that I produced just came out last month. I have new singles for Defected and a bunch of collaborations with Cooly G, Rozzi Dame & a few other talented peeps… I’m always working on new stuff. You know how it is, right??

3. Being a man of the world and crossing paths with so many different people must help you with understanding cultures. In your opinion which nation would you say takes hold of their dreams and lives the life they love rather than the life they loath the most?

Quite a tough question in the sense that I don’t think any nation takes hold of their dreams…

It’s all an illusion!! The economic system we live in is based around consumerism & mental raping (pardon my French!!) and it seems that people keep their third eye closed or don’t elevate to different stages of consciousness that much…I believe more in genuine people then in ‘nations’ really. You have to embrace what is around you; read in between the lines of what is offered information wise and stay super open, that’s my humble opinion.

4. Give us a brief rundown of the year in the life of Simbad.

A third of the year is spent mainly in the USA touring cities & recording artists, most of my days & nite are spent in airplanes / airports / trains / hotels / clubs or festivals around the planet; and the rest of the time spent in my studio in London… Trying to fit some cooking in & obviously trying to dedicate a mini-mini-minimum time to the lovely ladies I meet.

5. If there was anything in the world you would swap DJing/Producing for what would it be?

Probably would swap with a Shaolin Monk or a Kung Fu master.

6. Is being a DJ all about free entry, drinks tokens and after parties with beautiful people or is there much more to it?

I guess there’s a bit more to it if you consider the fact that we can present new music or unheard talent to audiences (especially radio wise). We can change the mood of an entire place just by playing the right (or wrong lol) tune! And, yeah perhaps at times we might go crazy ‘down to the constant travelling between continents and sleep deprivation’…. But hey, it’s all good!!

7. Like Martin Luther King Jr, many of us have a dream, but please advise us on how to make them come true, just like you did.

Through my own eyes I have learnt to never give up. If you want to live the life that you want to live (I did so many shitty jobs to survive in the past!!!). You can always turn things towards you instead of against you… It’s a question of choices, sacrifices & love.

Remaining positive and not being afraid of random experiences that the universe has to offer have been some of the keys for me, but hey, I’m still learning everyday as I live day by day!!!

8. Tell me 2 things everyone should do before 11am

Drink a big glass of water and make love to the one you love (if possible!)

9. Don’t tell anyone but I’ll be in New York throughout the festive season, will I be able to find you over there at a warehouse party?

Hey!! Yes! I’ll be in NY next month (Deep Space @ Cielo on the 18th October and a warehouse party on the 22nd October!)

Check out also the legendary I Love ViNYl parties twice a month too, absolutely fantastic vibes and great music!

Last Saturday Dannique and Zara had the pleasure of working with one of the most laid back and ravishing brides they had ever come across. The beautiful lady, Marie was pampered and given a full make over by the our 2 talented artists at the K West Hotel in Shepherds Bush. Marie was delighted with the results and expressed her joy with the biggest and most warming smile and thank you. Marie wanted a Brigitte Bardot look for her big day and  Brigitte Bardot is what she surely got.

We at Composez Vous want to send a huge Congratulations to Marie and Kaleb and an even bigger  Thank You for being such good sports.

A Good ol’ Chinwag with P.C Williams

13 Jul

IN BED WITH A CELEB

Every fortnight we take a ride through the mind of a creative genius, I have either worked with or just really admire. Here they get to air everything from their opinions to their dirty laundry. This fortnight I’m having:

A Good ol’ Chinwag with P.C Williams

P.C. Williams

Hey Patricia, how is life as a stylist and all the good stuff that comes with it?

It’s not all the glitz and glamour that everyone associates it with!! It’s a lot of running around, up and down town with countless bags/suitcases etc BUT I wouldn’t change it for the world!

Who or what was your inspiration?

There’s no greater inspiration than the city of London.

Are there any ghastly elements of your job?

Where do you want me to start? Hahaha! Of course there are! Make sure you’ve got a big but light suitcase when you start because there are a lot of clothes to carry on your travels.

What advice would you give to any up and coming style setters?

Be confident in yourself and your style. People are easy to knock you and then 3 years later they try rocking what you were wearing.

Patricia… We need some juice up in here, has anyone (famous) had you wanting to scream into a pillow?

Yes!!! But of course I would never say!

Other than devoting your life to helping twentysomethings (as well as wishful grannies like myself!) to look hot, what other projects do you devote your life too?

Firstly I am a granny too!! Don’t watch me and my knitwear collection! I have my own menswear label –P.C. WiLLiAMS – This is probably my main baby right now. Over the last year so much has happened with it.. Its all sooo exciting! I just wanna scream about it but I’m tryna be profesh and hold it down and design the next collection. Ha! I also work within arts education, working with a variety of arts organisations to carry out arts projects for young people from different parts of London. I love it.. Whenever I leave a gig I’m always so drained but I always feel soo bloody happy. Kids are amazing! Especially when they’re into arts and want to learn… nothing better.

Tell me 2 things everyone should do before 11am.

Have a cuppa, tweet, have a fag and enjoy a packet of fruit pastels. But I’m not a morning person. I like to do all my important things when everyone’s asleep, including the sun. I’d have probably given a better answer if it was pm not am but oh well.

What else are you interested in adding to your portfolio?

I want to start a creative arts foundation for young people. I want to do a load of collaborations between my brand and others. I want to be the head of wardrobe for a film. I’d love to design England’s football kit for a world cup at one point in my life… oh my god D I could go on and on and on about the stuff I want to do! I just want to be as creative as I can, doing what I love and finding the time to help my community. I never wanna be bored.

Who are you just waiting get your hands on and transforming?

There are soooo many people I’d like to do over but I think right now my aim is more on working with new up and coming artists. I think it’s so much more exciting to develop a person’s style from scratch rather than try and transform them whilst they are in the public eye because more often than not the public don’t buy it. Whereas I feel by starting with new artist I can be really influential with the development of their style and we can build something amazing from the beginning, avoiding as many potholes as we can obviously.

Ever given your business card to someone because you thought they could really do with your advice?

Hmmm…

A Light-hearted Natter with Nadine Charles

29 Jun

IN BED WITH A CELEB

Every fortnight we take a ride through the mind of a creative genius, I have either worked with or just really admire. Here they get to air everything from their opinions to their dirty laundry. This fortnight I’m having:

A light-hearted natter with Nadine Charles

Nadine Charles

Nadine, how are you? How many industries are you smashing at the moment?

Hiya, I’m good! Well my main focus is and has always been on my singing, but when side-projects like a bit of modelling pops up I do it as long as it doesn’t interfere with my music.

I’ve been asked to do some acting too but I’m scared I’ll stink at it so I dunno if I’ll ever go down that road.

Did singing come naturally to you?

Yep. Well I think so, others may disagree! I’ve always loved singing.  I’ve been singing from a young age.   It’s kind of in the blood. My dad and sister are musicians and I have many cousins who are singers too, so it was probably inevitable.

Do you write your own material?

Yes. I write most of my songs. It’s important for me to have an input into what I’m singing, to give it that genuine/personal touch.  Also, I find me writing therapeutic. Sometimes it’s hard to talk to someone about how you feel, but when I sit down and write a song it comes pouring out! It can get rather emotional; and it’s nice to get messages from people who tell me they can relate to me and appreciate that I’ve written from an experience I’ve been through. What’s music if it doesn’t connect with the listener?

What kind of things crop up on an average day in your life?

Every day is different for me because I don’t have a set schedule. But I spend a lot of time cooking, listening /writing to music, responding to emails, generally trying to keep on top of things, mummy duties too! I go to gigs as much as possible also. Oh and apparently I’m a twitter addict! I tweet a LOT!

How often do you look into a mirror?

Every time I walk past one! Lol Nah. I don’t have time to sit and gaze at myself in a mirror. Most mirrors make you look awful anyway…or maybe that’s what I really look like….hmmm???? If I’m getting ready to go out I’ll give myself the once over before I leave out. That’s about it.

What are the top 5 Make-up products you’d scream without?

I don’t wear much make up on a day to day basis. Just Lip-gloss really and maybe sometimes a bit of eyeliner unless I’m doing photo shoots.

Bio Oil

Palmer’s cocoa butter

Victoria Secrets Body Mist

Victoria Secrets Lip Gloss (looks and taste lovely)

Bobbi Brown Long-wear Gel Eyeliner

How did you go about achieving your dreams?

Well I’m still on my journey.  But I think the best way of achieving my dreams is to realise my own potential, stay focused and surround myself with the right kind of people, people who share my vision and can kick my butt when I’m slacking.

Tell me 2 things everyone should do before 11am

Wash your bits and pieces lol and plan your day before you start. “Fail to plan, plan to fail”

Which are you doing more of these days, singing or modelling?

Well recently I’ve done more photo shoots than I’ve done in a while, but music definitely occupies most of my time.

How good are you at running in heels?

I’m very good at running in heels. Being short stuff I tend to wear heels when I go out so I’m quite a pro. Fancy a race?
